Rhode Island Staircase Remodel
This full staircase renovation transformed a dated, carpeted staircase into a stunning custom hardwood staircase built to last a lifetime. Independent Wood Flooring handled every phase of this Rhode Island staircase remodel — from demolition to final installation — with the same owner-operated attention to detail we bring to every project.
We began by removing the existing carpet, padding, old wooden balusters, and handrails down to the stringer structure. New red oak stair treads were custom-cut, pre-sanded, and pre-finished in our shop before installation — ensuring a flawless surface with no dust or fumes in the home. White painted risers were installed alongside the treads for a clean, modern contrast that highlights the natural oak grain.
The railing system features a solid oak handrail and newel post paired with sleek black iron balusters — one of the most popular staircase remodel combinations for Rhode Island homeowners looking to update their entryway. Every component was measured, fitted, and secured on-site by our crew. The result: a staircase that is structurally sound, visually striking, and built to NWFA standards with a two-year labor guarantee.

After sanding the approximately 100-year-old flooring, we applied three coats of Bona oil-based polyurethane to enhance the natural grain and create the rich, warm amber appearance that complements older pine beautifully.
