What Drives the Cost Within Each Scope

Wood Species

Red oak is the most common and most affordable. White oak runs higher due to demand. Maple, pine, and Brazilian cherry each have different pricing based on availability and workability. The species you choose affects both material cost and labor time — some woods are significantly harder to work with.

Number of Stairs

More stairs = more treads, risers, and baluster positions. A standard 13-step staircase is priced differently than a 20-step open-concept stair with a landing. We count everything — treads, risers, landings, winders — before quoting.

Railing System

Access During the Project

One thing we always handle: we pre-finish all tread components before installation wherever possible, so you can use the stairs throughout the project. This takes more planning on our end but avoids disrupting your household for days at a time.

Can You Match My Existing Hardwood Floors?

Yes — and this is something we specialize in. Matching a staircase to adjacent hardwood floors is one of the trickiest parts of the job. The species, age, and existing finish all affect the final color. We test stain samples on the actual wood and compare them directly to your floors before applying anything. We're transparent about what's achievable and won't promise a perfect match when the wood species or age makes that difficult.
