Coventry, RI · Prefinished Hardwood Floor Restoration
Prefinished Hardwood Floor Restoration — Coventry, Rhode Island
The prefinished hardwood in this Coventry home had taken years of wear — scratches, stains, and a factory finish that had broken down across high-traffic areas. Replacement was on the table, but the floor still had life in it if it could be prepped and refinished correctly.

The Challenge
Prefinished flooring has a hardened factory finish — often aluminum-oxide based — that resists normal sanding. Breaking through that factory finish evenly, without gouging the wood beneath, is the technical hurdle on a restoration like this.
The floor also needed flattening in worn areas so the new finish would lay down cleanly and the surface would read as one even plane.
Our Approach
We restored the existing prefinished hardwood rather than replacing it. The first step was breaking through the factory finish using a Bona Power Drive with a diamond-plate abrasive system, which also assisted with flattening the worn surface.
From there we ran a progressive sanding sequence — moving through grits in order — to bring the wood to a clean, consistent raw surface ready to accept finish. The floor was restored to its natural appearance; no dark stain was applied. The finish system is a coat of LOBA EasyPrime followed by two coats of LOBA 2K Duo in a satin sheen.
The Process
01 · Factory finish removal
Bona Power Drive with diamond-plate abrasive system used to break through the prefinished factory coating and assist flattening.
02 · Progressive sanding
Grit-by-grit sanding sequence to reach a clean, consistent raw wood surface.
03 · Flattening
Worn areas flattened so the new finish lays down evenly across the whole floor.
04 · Primer coat
One coat of LOBA EasyPrime applied to the prepared surface.
05 · Top coats
Two coats of LOBA 2K Duo applied, finished to a satin sheen.
Materials & Finish
The existing prefinished hardwood was restored to a natural appearance — no dark stain. The finish system is LOBA EasyPrime as a primer followed by two coats of LOBA 2K Duo in satin.

The Result
The worn prefinished floor was restored rather than ripped out. Scratches and stains are gone, the surface is flat, and the natural wood carries a clean satin finish — the same floor, given back its original character.
