Wide-Plank European White Oak Installation — North Kingstown, Rhode Island
This North Kingstown project called for a premium wide-plank floor — 10-inch unfinished European white oak engineered flooring, 3/4" overall thickness with a 6mm wear layer. Wide-plank installs of this width demand precise subfloor prep and a controlled glue-down method, because there is very little margin for boards to move once they're set.
The Challenge
At 10 inches wide, each plank covers a large surface area and any subfloor irregularity telegraphs directly into the finished floor. Subfloor prep had to be exact before any adhesive went down.
A full-spread trowel glue-down on wide engineered plank is technical work — the open time of the adhesive, the coverage, and the seating of each board all have to be controlled so the floor stays fully bonded across its full width.
Our Approach
We prepped the subfloor across the hallway and kitchen, then ran a full-spread trowel glue-down installation, nailing where needed for additional hold. The wide European white oak planks were seated into the adhesive systematically so the floor was fully bonded.
Because the material was unfinished, it was stained and coated on site — allowing the homeowner to land on the final color against the actual wood in the actual space. The finished floor reads as a deep, rich color across the wide planks.
The Process
01 · Subfloor preparation

02 · Material staging
Premium 10-inch European white oak engineered planks — 3/4" overall thickness, 6mm wear layer — staged for installation.
03 · Full-spread glue-down
Trowel adhesive spread full-area; planks seated systematically and nailed where needed for additional hold.
04 · On-site stain & finish
Unfinished planks stained and coated on site to a deep, rich finished color.
